MANHATTAN, Kan. -
Kansas State running back Daniel Thomas and safety Tysyn Hartman have been named to Phil Steele's
preseason All-Big 12 football teams released Wednesday by the publication.
A Doak Walker Award and All-America candidate, Thomas
was named to the magazine's All-Big 12 first team after leading the conference in rushing in 2009. The Hilliard, Fla., native burst onto the scene at running back last season by rushing for 1,265 yards and 11 touchdowns en route to Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Big 12 accolades.
In just his first full season at running back, Thomas also led the league in rushing attempts (247) and rushing yards per game (105.4) while ranking fifth in all-purpose yards per game at 128.9.
Hartman, a third team selection by Phil Steele, was an All-Big 12 performer at safety in 2009 and was also an Academic All-Big 12 and All-District VII pick for a program that has led the Big 12 in graduation rate in each of the last three years. The Wichita native finished fourth on the team in tackles with 54, while his five interceptions in the regular season tied for the second-most in the Big 12 and ranked 19th nationally. He also collected six pass breakups.
K-State returns 40 lettermen and 12 total starters from last year's 6-6 squad and will look to continue to make strides under head coach Bill Snyder, who is in his 19th season overall at Kansas State and second since returning from a three-year retirement. The Wildcats finished 4-4 in Big 12 Conference play in 2009 and were one win shy of advancing to the Big 12 Championship game.
Kansas State opens its 2010 season on September 4 against UCLA in a game that will be televised by ABC beginning at 2:30 p.m. All North End Zone season tickets for the 2010 season have been sold out, but great seats in other areas of the stadium remain on sale and can be purchased online at k-statesports.com or by calling 1-800-221-CATS.
Single-game tickets for the Wildcats' six home games will go on sale June 14, while a four-pack of tickets to the UCLA game can be purchased for $99 from June 14-30. Also, K-State Alumni Association members can package UCLA and Texas tickets for only $120 if ordered between June 1-11. A limited number of both the four-packs and Alumni mini-packages will be available.
