MANHATTAN, Kan. - Three former Kansas State football players - offensive lineman Cornelius Lucas, wide receiver/kick returner Tramaine Thompson and defensive back Ty Zimmerman - have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams following the 2014 NFL Draft.
Lucas signed with the Detroit Lions and Thompson inked a deal with the Atlanta Falcons, while Zimmerman will join sixth-round draft pick Tavon Rooks with the New Orleans Saints.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Lucas is a two-time All-Big 12 performer, including his junior season when he earned first-team honors as he helped the Wildcats capture the 2012 Big 12 Championship. A 26-game starter at left tackle, Lucas was also named to the Outland Trophy watch list prior to his senior campaign.
Thompson, a threat at both wide receiver and in the return game, was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 returner as both a junior and senior. He finished his K-State career fourth in school history in career punt-return yardage (718), eighth in all-purpose yards (3,217) and 12th in receiving yards (1,673), while he was just the third Wildcat in school history to score a touchdown via a rush, reception, punt return and kickoff return.
The first four-year all-conference player in school history, Zimmerman earned Second Team All-America honors as both a junior and senior. The Junction City, Kansas, native ranks second in K-State history in career interception-return yards (221), third in interceptions (13) and fourth in interception-return touchdowns (2). He also became the 25th Wildcat with 250 career tackles, including 171 unassisted stops to rank eighth.
Other former Wildcats could sign with NFL clubs and those names will be announced at a later date.
Kansas State begins its 2014 season on Saturday, August 30, by hosting Stephen F. Austin in Bill Snyder Family Stadium, a game that serves as the sixth annual K-State Family Reunion.
