K-State Plays BYU in West Regional Second Round Saturday The Wildcats continued their school-record season for wins on Thursday with their 27th in an 82-62 victory over No. 15 seed North Texas. The win ended the Mean Green's winning streak at 11 games, which was tied for the third-longest in the country. The squad used a balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures as well as a stifling defensive effort to earn their second NCAA Tournament win in the last three seasons. The team held North Texas to its second fewest points of the season on just 30.8 percent shooting, including just 20.8 percent in the first half, while scoring 17 points off of 16 turnovers. Senior Denis Clemente led K-State with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-7 effort from 3-point range, to go with a team-high six assists, while juniors Curtis Kelly and Jacob Pullen added 15 points each. It marked the 24th time this season that at least four players scored in double figures with the Wildcats holding a 21-3 mark in those contests. Pullen has now scored in double figures in 34 consecutive games, while Clemente has done so in 15 straight times. At NCAA Championship The school is making its fifth appearance in the West Regional and the first since 1987 with a 9-6 record all-time. The No. 2 seed is the highest for K-State since seeding began in 1979, surpassing the previous high of a No. 4 seed in 1988. It marks just the sixth time that that Wildcats have earned a seeding of eight or better in the NCAA Tournament. In the program's 23 previous NCAA Tournaments, the squad has advanced to the Sweet 16 a total of 16 times, reached 11 Elite Eights, made four Final Four appearances (1948-1951-1958-1964) and played in one NCAA title game (1951). It marked the 15th time that the squad has had at least 40 rebounds in a game... The team is now 21-2 this season when out-rebounding an opponent... Dominique Sutton led all players with eight rebounds, marking the team-leading 12th time he has led the squad in rebounding and 23rd overall in his career. --K-State scored 17 points off of 16 North Texas turnovers, marking the 23rd time that the squad has scored at least 15 points off of opponent turnovers... The team has the third-highest single season total for steals (251), marking the third straight season that the Wildcats have posted at least 200 steals in a single season... The squad has also dished out 500 assists for the sixth time in history and third time in the last four seasons. --With 229 3-point field goals, the squad has now posted 200 or more treys for the fifth time in school history, including the third consecutive season... The 229 treys are the second-most in school history and the most since the 1993-94 season had a school-record 246. --Junior Jacob Pullen is the second player in school history and the first since Steve Henson to tally at least 1,000 points 200 3-pointers, 300 assists and 100 steals in a career... With five treys against Oklahoma State, he became the third player in school history with 200 or more 3-pointers. --Pullen has now scored 1,430 points in 101 career games, which ranks sixth on the school's all-time scoring chart...
