MANHATTAN, Kan. - A pair of Wildcats, Ross Kivett and Jake Matthys, were named Louisville Slugger Preseason All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Kivett was named to the First Team - the only Big 12 student-athlete on the First Team - while Matthys was selected to the Third Team as a relief pitcher.

Named to the ACBWA Preseason All-America First Team earlier in December, Kivett has now earned two preseason All-American accolades entering the 2014 season. Kivett is coming off a 2013 season in which he helped K-State win a Big 12 title and reach the program's first Super Regional as well as be named All-American by three organizations, Big 12 Player of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team and Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.

Matthys picked up his first preseason All-American honor of his career after being named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America and Big 12 Freshman of the Year last season. The right-hander had nine saves and a 2.05 ERA in 2013 to go along with his 9-2 record in 34 games (one start). The nine saves were tied for second in the Big 12 while also the most by a K-State freshman in program history.

Matthys is the first K-State sophomore to earn preseason All-American honors. His Big 12 Freshman of the Year award from last season was the first earned by a Wildcat in school history.

Since 2011, K-State has picked up nine preseason All-American selections.

The K-State duo represents half of the quartet of Big 12 representatives on the Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American teams. Pitchers Harrison Musgrave (West Virginia) and Brandon Finnegan (TCU) were named to the Second and Third Team, respectively.

Kivett and Matthys are two of the 19 returning players from last year's Big 12 champion K-State team. The Wildcats start their season on Feb. 14 at Cal Poly while the first of 28 home games at Tointon Family Stadium is set for Friday, Feb. 28. Season tickets are available and can be purchased by calling 1-800-221-CATS, visiting the K-State Athletics Ticket Office at Bramlage Coliseum or going online here.
