MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State junior pitcher Justin Murray, who recently earned Texas Collegiate League Pitcher of the Year honors following a stellar summer season, was named the No. 3 prospect of the league by Baseball America, the publication has announced.

Murray, playing for the McKinney Marshalls, finished the season with a 5-2 record in eight starts, recording 48 strikeouts, opposed to just eight walks, while only allowing three earned runs in 50 innings pitched.  The Manhattan, Kan., native helped lead the Marshalls to a 23-17 record and a berth into the TCL Championship Series.

Texas pitcher Casey Whitmer and battery mate Preston Clark were ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, by the publication.

As a sophomore last season, Murray finished 4-3 with a 5.79 ERA in 24 appearances, including four starts.

Murray’s selection marks the second-straight year a Wildcat has appeared on Baseball America’s top summer prospect list as Byron Wiley was named the Northwoods League’s No. 10 prospect in 2006.
