K-State Charging Up For Big 12 Championships
Oct. 28, 2010
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s and women’s cross country teams return to Stillwater, Okla., as they will be competing in the Big 12 Championships hosted by Oklahoma State on Saturday. The women’s race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s race which starts at 11 a.m.
Head coach Michael Smith hopes his team can continue their successful run after a strong showing at Pre-Nationals two weeks ago.
“We are trying to a take a step forward and are knocking on the door. We have the personnel to do it but they have to go and do it.”
The women’s team will bring nine runners, with senior Sydney Messick and sophomore Martina Tresch looking to set the tone early. Messick is coming off a great race after finishing 18th overall at Pre-Nationals which was her career best finish in that race. Tresch is also coming a strong performance in Terre Haute as she earned a 22nd overall finish.
The men’s team will see where they match up with the rest of the Big 12. They will also bring nine runners led by junior Armando Del Valle. Del Valle has been the top runner for the men this year as he has been the first Wildcat to cross the finish line in each of his two races.
