Wildcat Cross Country Secures Pair of Top Ten Finishes
Stillwater, Okla.-In their first action in over three weeks, the Kansas State cross country teams secured a pair of top ten finishes at the 67th Annual Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree ran at the OSU Cross Country Course today. K-State's women raced to an eighth place finish while the men finished 10th.
For the second consecutive meet, Stefanie Murer led the Wildcat women. Murer raced to a time of 21:12 on the 6,000-meter course to finish third overall in a field of 162 runners. She was just seconds behind the individual winner, Rachel Collins of Southern Methodist, who finished in a time of 21:04. The Wildcats also got another strong effort from junior Trisha Culbertson. Culbertson, who won an individual title earlier this year, secured a top 20 finish when her time of 22:01 placed her 18th. Other Wildcats who factored in the scoring were Shauna Burrell who finished 37th, Tina Todd (52nd) and Cate Holston (82nd) On the men's side, Mathew Chesang led the way for the third consecutive meet. Chesang finished seventh overall on the 8,000-meter course with a time of 24:30. Chesang's brother, Benson Chesang of Kansas, won the individual title with a time of 24:09. Rogers Kipchumba garnered another top-40 finish when he placed 40th in the event with a time of 25:28. Joe Moore, who finished 72nd, Christian Smith (89th) and Erik Sproll (103rd) also scored points for the Wildcats. Texas Tech took home the women's team title with a score of 93 while Georgia won the men's title with a score of 85. Kansas State will return to action to compete in the Chile Pepper Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas on Saturday, October 18, in Fayetteville, Ark. Women's team results: 1.
