Moore and Gwinn Stand Out at Woody Greeno

LINCOLN, Neb.  Senior Joe Moore and freshman Jana Gwinn led the way for the K-State cross country teams on Saturday as they competed in the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational at Pioneer’s Park in Lincoln, Neb. Moore turned in a 10th place finish on the 10K course, crossing the line at 25:37. Gwinn clocked a 22:52 time, finishing 19th on the 8K women’s course.

“Joe (Moore) had an outstanding race,” commented coach Michael Smith. “He turned in a really good time for this part of the season on this course. If he keeps running at the pace he is and training as hard as he is, I expect him to place very well at the Big 12 Championships.”

Smith is very excited about the performance of Gwinn. He says as of this point in the season, she shows great potential.

“Jana (Gwinn) ran really well today. She shows signs of improvement every time she races. I can expect her to keep improving as the season goes on. Her confidence continues to grow every time she races.”

As a team, the men placed 14th out of the 29 schools who participated. Out of design, the men did not run their full lineup on Saturday. Smith expects to show his full lineup at the next race. The women placed 14th out of 31 teams.

The cross country team will have next weekend off. Their next competition is Saturday, Oct.1 at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.
