Cross Country to Host K-State/KU Dual this Friday

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State men’s and women’s cross country teams continue their 2005 campaigns, hosting the K-State/KU Dual this Friday, September 9 at Warner Park in Manhattan. Races are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. with the women’s 6K race, followed by the men’s 8K race at 7:30 p.m.

K-State comes off of a pair of second place finishes at the JK Gold Classic last weekend in Augusta, Kan. Both teams ran split squads last weekend, but look forward to running close to their full lineups this Friday, according to coach Michael Smith.

“We should have almost all of our guys running this week, including Joseph Moore, Colin Swaney, Matt Swedlund, and Casey Johnson, who didn’t compete last week. On the women’s side, we will introduce Christina Lara and Whitney Patton back into the lineup, which should strengthen our women’s team.”

The K-State/KU Dual marks the first time the Wildcats will host a meet in Manhattan since the 2000 season. Coach Smith says that Warner Park will create a good running environment for his teams.

“(Warner Park) is a challenging course. It is very hilly, and will be even tougher to run in the heat. The runners who ran last week will have an advantage. The fitness level of runners improves as the year goes on, so the ones who have that race under their belt should run at a higher level this week.”

Results of the K-State/ KU Dual will be posted following the event at www.k-statesports.com.
