Tulsa, Okla.-In their first meet of the year, the Kansas State men's and women's cross country teams both placed second at the University of Tulsa Hurricane Festival ran today at Mohawk Park. The Wildcats swept the individual titles as Mathew Chesang placed first in the men's event while Trisha Culbertson took the women's title.

On the men's side, Tulsa won the meet with a point total of 35, just ahead of K-State's 39 points. The Wildcats were led by Chesang, who won the four-mile race with a time of 21:03. K-State's Rogers Kipchumpa finished second in the race with a time of 21:24. Micha Gamper rounded out K-State's top ten finishers with a time of 22:04 to place seventh.

In the women's race, the University of Oklahoma edged the Wildcats to take home the meet title. Their score of 37 narrowly defeated the Wildcats who finished with a score of 40.

Trisha Culbertson won the first individual title of her career with a time of 11:47 in the two-mile race, easily defeating Nicola Maye of Oklahoma, who finished in second with a time of 12:34. The Wildcats Shauna Burrell placed fourth in the meet with a time of 12:40 while Tina Todd earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 12:45.

The Wildcats return to action to host their only home meet of the season, the 2003 Kansas State University Invitational on Saturday, September 13, in Topeka, Kan.
