MANHATTAN, Kan. – Track and field season is officially here with the beginning of the indoor schedule this Friday and Saturday as the Wildcats host the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon and KSU All-Comers at Ahearn Field House.

Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday with the men’s and women’s pentathlon. K-State will have a number of athletes from its multis program competing along with former Wildcat and NCAA outdoor champion Ryann Krais. The KSU All-Comers features a full slate of events and begins at 11 a.m. Saturday with field events and running events start at 2 p.m.

The Wildcats return some major contributors from the 2012 team for the 2013 campaign, including Big 12 champions Kyle Wait, Alyx Treasure and Olympic silver medalist Erik Kynard. Wait will be in action on Saturday with the men’s pole vault scheduled to follow the women’s event, which starts at noon.

K-State’s men finished fourth at the Big 12 Indoor Championship last year and bring back many key pieces to that successful performance. The women are poised for another big year after posting their best finish in three years at the conference championship. They also have the best group of freshman in the conference joining the team this year.

In the January issue of Track & Field News, the 2013 women’s recruiting class ranks No. 6 in the nation and tops in the Big 12 Conference. No other Big 12 team ranks in the Top 10 according to Track & Field News. A number of those newcomers will be in action on Friday and Saturday for the Wildcats. The men’s team also has a large class of newcomers to join the ranks of the returners.

Admission to the meets is free. Fans are asked to enter at the east doors of Ahearn Field House and use the balcony seating.
