PALO ALTO, Calif.-Freshman Kyle Lancaster led a strong contingent of Kansas State athletes at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships when he placed fourth in the high jump at the meet today.

His jump of 7-03.25 tied his second best performance of the year and placed him one spot out of qualifying for Team USA and participating in the 2003 World Tack and Field Championships in Paris, France. Lancaster finished tied with five other jumpers, but placed fourth because he cleared the height on his second attempt.

Jamie Nieto won the event with a jump of 7-06.50.

In other action, Rebekah Green set a personal best in the shot put at the meet when her toss of 56-06.75 placed her sixth at the championships. Her top nine finish gave her three more chances at placing in the top three; however, the junior was unable to top her second throw and was unable to qualify for Team USA.

Mandi Peterson was the third Wildcat to record a top ten finish when she placed tenth in the javelin throw with a toss of 150-10. Erica Wheeler won the event with a throw of 186-06.

Amy Mortimer, who qualified for the finals of the 1,500 meters earlier in the week, finished ninth in the event with a time of 4:18.36. Defending1,500 meter national champion Regina Jacobs won the event with a time of 4:01.63.

The USA Track & Field Championships will conclude tomorrow. Wildcat athletes Chaytan Hill and Morgan High will look to make Team USA on the final day of the meet. Hill will compete in the triple jump while High will participate in the high jump.
