EUGENE, Ore. - On the second day of action at the NCAA Track and Field Championship, Kansas State saw its first action of the meet. Moritz Cleve took to the track for the first day of the decathlon, Jeffrey Julmis ran in the semifinals of the 110 meter hurdles and Martina Tresch competed in the semis of the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Julmis finished fourth in his heat of the hurdles, which was the fastest heat of the day and his time of 13.69 was enough to grab the final spot in the Saturday's final. Julmis entered the championship with the fourth-fasted time in the nation clocking in with a wind-aided time of 13.59 at the West Regional two weeks ago.
Cleve opened the decathlon with time of 11.16 to find himself in 10th place. He continued to hover around that spot in the field throughout the day. He finished seventh in the 400 meters to close the day at 49.23 seconds. Through the first five events he tallied 3,820 points to put himself in 13th place with some of his stronger events to come on Friday.
Martina Tresch has had one of the best seasons by a freshman at K-State in some time as she shattered the school record in the steeplechase by more than 11 seconds at the Big 12 Championship to finish third. She finished just off the mark to advance to the final at the NCAA Championship coming in seventh in her heat clocking in at 10:16.85 and finishing 16th overall - just two spots shy of the final.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday with Cleve finishing the decathlon beginning at noon Central.
