K-State Athletics Broadcasting Office

The K-State Athletics Broadcasting & Powercat Vision Office is responsible for the department’s external media operations, such as K-State HD.TV, radio and television sportscasting, radio and television production and engineering, in-game video production, DVD production, as well as various other audio and video productions.

K-State partners with Learfield Communications for its radio and marketing rights, including its third-tier television rights, in addition to contracted arrangements with ESPN/ABC and Fox Sports Net for television coverage as part of Big 12 Conference membership.  K-State also is a proud partner with CBS College Sports and the on-campus Division of Communications and Marketing on the ground-breaking venture K-State HD.TV, which stands as the #1 ranked subscription digital network among CBS schools.

The Powercat Vision arm of the Broadcasting Office is primarily responsible for the over 150 live athletic video events productions and countless on-demand videos per year for K-State HD.TV and other media partners.  This includes video-board game-day productions for all K-State football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball home games; the weekly Bill Snyder, Frank Martin and Deb Patterson coaches shows;  the FSN K-State Football Pre-Season Preview; the football DVD Video Season Ticket package; and the award-winning DVDs such as the Decade of Dominance, Instant Wildcat Classic, Wildcat Classic, and History of K-State Men’s Basketball.

 

Meet the Staff

Wyatt Thompson
Voice of the Wildcats/Director of Sportscasting and Public Relations

Areas of responsibility: K-State's lead play-by-play announcer for football, men's basketball, and baseball; serves as host of the Bill Snyder and Frank Martin weekly TV Shows and radio shows; also appears at numerous public relations events and speaking engagements; serves as the departmental liaison to Learfield Communications and K-State Sports Network affiliates.

Brian Smoller

Sportscasting/Director of Powercat Vision/K-State HD.TV

Areas of responsibility: K-State’s play-by-play announcer for women’s basketball, and baseball, serves as host of the Deb Patterson TV Show, and hosts the Deb Patterson, and Brad Hill radio call-in shows. Also serves as the lead announcer for K-State HD.TV while overseeing all staff and scheduling of video production for athletics video production for K-State HD.TV, in-game video boards, DVDs, and special projects.

Norm Burge
Senior Video Engineer

Areas of responsibility: Oversees engineering on football and basketball video boards, oversees production of weekly TV Shows for Bill Snyder, Frank Martin, and Deb Patterson.  Maintains all video equipment and oversees required video production for K-State HD.TV, Bramlage Coliseum, or Bill Snyder Family Stadium special events as well as special video projects.

Preston Koerner
Video Producer

Areas of responsibility: Operates one of K-State's state-of-the-art non-linear editing systems. Provides editing and camera work for in-game and K-State HD.TV video productions including football, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, weekly coaches TV shows, highlight videos, as well as promotional videos and commercials.  Also serves as camera operator for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.

Areas of responsibility: Operates one of K-State's state-of-the-art non-linear editing systems. Provides writing, editing, and camera work for in-game and K-State HD.TV video productions including Wildcat Spotlight, Wildcat Showcase, olympic sport coverage, weekly coaches TV shows, highlight videos, as well as promotional videos and commercials or other special projects.  Also serves as main supervisor of student interns for Powercat Vision office.
