Nov. 1, 2001

MANHATTAN, Kan. - MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State student-athletes and administrators will be spending time at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School and with students from Eugene Field when they participate in "Read 'Til You're Purple" on Friday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In conjunction with Kevin Lockett's Read and Achieve Foundation, members of the various athletic teams, K-State athletic department personnel, Willie the Wildcat and the KSU cheerleaders have been invited to bring their favorite book to share and read with students in grades kindergarten through sixth.

Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School has been a partner in Kevin Lockett's Read and Achieve Foundation since the fall of 1999. Lockett visits the shool two to three times a year to talk about the importance of reading. The partnership also created family reading nights at Roosevelt, with K-State student-athletes volunteering their time to read with students and parents.
